Float Therapy
What is Float Therapy?
Float Therapy — also known as sensory deprivation, isolation tanks, R.E.S.T. (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy), or simply floatation tanks — involves lying effortlessly in a warm, shallow pool of highly concentrated Epsom salt water, inside a light- and sound-proof pod. All of these terms refer to the same transformative experience: floating.
Each float is unique, and the benefits can vary from person to person. Many of our clients use floatation for stress reduction, pain relief, athletic recovery, deep relaxation, and meditative introspection. Others find it helpful for boosting creativity, improving sleep, managing jet lag, supporting pregnancy, or simply for personal wellbeing and self-development — however that may look for you.
To further enhance the experience, many of our clients choose to enjoy one of our Nootropic teas beforehand, which can promote heightened clarity and creativity during the float.
Our Float Room
During Your Float
When you arrive, we’ll take you through a full briefing and explain everything you need to know. Please ensure you arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for your compulsory pre-float shower and to begin switching off from the outside world.
Your float room is completely private and features a lockable door. Once you step into the tank and close the lid, the lights will automatically turn off, creating the ideal environment for deep relaxation.
Once your session begins and you’ve settled into a comfortable position, centre yourself in the tank and breathe naturally. Floating is entirely effortless thanks to the 550kg of Epsom salt dissolved in the water, creating perfect buoyancy. Take a few moments to mentally scan your body, relaxing each muscle group in turn — this can be a surprisingly powerful process, helping you become more aware of your body in a new way. Be patient, be kind to yourself.
Enjoy the peace and quiet. You may want to explore your meditation practice, brainstorm ideas, or simply drift as you listen to your breath. As your mind and body relax further, you may enter a theta brainwave state — a dreamy, timeless condition that typically occurs between sleep and wakefulness. The more often you float, the easier it becomes to reach this state.
For an extra boost in clarity or creativity, try adding one of our Nootropic teas before your session — designed to support enhanced cognitive function. Simply add it to your booking at checkout and arrive 30 minutes early instead of the usual 15.
New to Floating?
If you’ve never floated before, it’s helpful to know there can be a bit of a learning curve — and that’s completely normal. We always recommend trying three floats in close succession before deciding if it’s right for you. Floating is a skill, and like any skill, it improves with practice.
In today’s hyper-connected world, many of us have forgotten how to truly switch off. That’s why those first three sessions can be so powerful — they help you reacquaint yourself with stillness and show you what floatation therapy really has to offer.
Even a single float can bring about deep relaxation, unlike anything you’ve experienced before. But it may take a couple of sessions to adjust to the new environment and get into the rhythm of the experience. The benefits are cumulative, so each session builds on the last.
Our advice? Don’t pressure yourself to “relax”. Simply lie back, breathe, and allow the experience to unfold. The less you try to control it, the more you’ll get from it.
So, what brings you here?
Are you seeking a deeper connection to your consciousness through meditation?
Looking for genuine relief from stress in a space where you can completely let go?
Recovering from training or injury, and wanting to complement your physical recovery with mental clarity?
Or perhaps you’re simply curious to learn more about yourself on a deeper level?
Whatever your reason, floating can be the solution. We offer relaxing, one-hour, 90 mins, two-hour and 3-hour floatation sessions at our centre in Folkestone, Kent — and we’d love to welcome you in.
After Your Float
Once your session ends — no matter the duration — many people describe feeling refreshed, mentally clear, and deeply relaxed. The combination of weightlessness and sensory isolation creates a feeling like no other.
Take your time. Help yourself to tea or coffee and unwind on our sofas before heading back out into the world. We recommend you spend a few quiet minutes simply noticing how you feel. If possible, resist the urge to check your phone straight away — give yourself time to absorb the benefits of being unplugged.
Floating doesn’t end when you leave the tank. Many clients report continued feelings of calm, clarity, and elevated mood for days afterwards. Studies have shown that floating can lower cortisol (stress hormones) while increasing dopamine and endorphin levels. A consistent float practice offers compounding benefits over time.
Our team are all regular floaters and we love hearing about your experiences. Whether you had a powerful insight, a restful break, or simply want to share your thoughts — please do let us know. And if you enjoyed your float, we’d be incredibly grateful if you left us a review on Google.
